Qualifications/Experience:
High School Diploma/GED and passed ParaPro/Para Educator testing (or 60 college credits) required.
A successful background check is required.
Prefer experience working with children.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Needed:
Patience, flexibility, love for children, confidentiality, teamwork, self-starter, takes direction easily, excellent communication skills, behavior management skills, assist in the classroom and in special education classroom.
Exemplifies the following Five Character Traits: compassion, respect, responsibility, self-discipline, and honesty.
Specific Tasks:
Provide instructional/behavioral support on the bus to special education students. Some specific responsibilities include: Assisting the driver with student management during transport, including maintaining order and safe behavior of students; managing all types of students with special needs, including students with behavior deficits, students with physical disabilities and preschool-transition age students. Working actively with students on the bus to monitor and improve their behavior. Communicating with students, bus driver, parents, school staff, emergency personnel and others. Be on board the bus, or assisting in loading or unloading outside, at all times while on duty The bus IA is responsible for the safety of the students during loading and unloading. This may mean meeting them at the door of the bus and escorting them to their seat; fastening or assisting in fastening their seatbelt or car seat or other restraint; assisting them up and down the bus steps; or assisting with the loading and securement of students using wheelchairs or other adaptive equipment. The bus IA is responsible for assisting students and the bus driver in emergencies, such as emergency evacuations.
